The phrase viral marketing sounds like an illness that might land you in bed for a solid week. However, viral marketing is one of the most powerful and popular forms of marketing on the Internet today.
Taking its cues from the traditional word of mouth method of advertising. Viral marketing is a way to create a stir about your website. Many organizations will do this by using a creative blog, which will get people talking about their site. Another interesting form of viral marketing is the use of games or contests. People visit your site to enter to win a free million-dollar make over and will be drawn in by the other marketing messages. Interesting movie clips or images are still other ways to draw attention.
Organizations will also use over the top viral marketing techniques to garner the attention of the media. One good news story about their website will do more for their traffic flow than any well thought out advertising campaign could hope to do. People are interested in the obscure, or unusual, so the more innovative the viral marketing idea, the more attention it is likely to draw.
Creativity is the norm in an effective viral marketing campaign, however, it is important that your efforts will assist you in drawing credibility to your product while still drawing traffic to your site. A bizarre promotion that is irrelevant to your product could serve to derail the good reputation you have already built for your organization.
Viral marketing is a powerful way to build traffic to your website. A well thought out campaign will not only get people talking, it will get them motivated to visit your site and buy your product.
